“Do you want to know what my super power is?” my 5 year old son asked me the other day and so began a conversation that continued for the next several days. The list started with things like super strength, the ability to see what is happening in his mind (his form of imagination), and hearing things from far away. Then the list started to change. It included things like being kind, being helpful and being patient. Even more enduring was when he wanted to tell me what my super powers are. Things like making people better when they get hurt, being patient and making food.
Although the words came from a boy trying to be a super hero of sorts I found his words reminding me of the Holy Spirit working within us and that really many of the things on his list are fruits of the Spirit and evidence of the workings of the Lord within us. Any strength we do possess comes from the Lord. Exodus 15:2 says, “The LORD is my strength and my song; he has given me victory. This is my God, and I will praise him—my father’s God, and I will exalt him!” Many days I do not feel like I have any power at all but God gives me the strength to make it through another day and hopefully to bless him and others as I go about my days. I just have to remember to reach for Him and let His Spirit fill me with His power instead of relying on my own strength.
So how about you? What is your Super Power? How will you use it to glorify God today?
