My Thinking Spot

This past year I felt like a barely kept my head above water. I know I had a new baby (and it was bit harder since the boys are 3 years apart). And really ever since we moved to Montana I felt like I was behind, unorganized and it was getting worse. Our kids are getting bigger and have more activities than we have ever had before coupled with little ones still at home has made for some difficult juggling. I had to come to accept that we are in a new season of life.

I also did some hard thinking about who I am and what I need to be successful in this new season of life. I really process things through writing and I realized I had nowhere to write! I need some quiet and my books, journals, room for my laptop, etc… so I can plan our days, process our days and somehow work my way out of the deep waters.

So as we prepared for a better year my husband helped me carve out a spot in our room and I tried to carve out some time in the evenings to sit and work through this life we’ve been given. I haven’t been able to do it every night but several times a week and I already feel like my head is clearer and we are accomplishing more with our days. I even have a record of the highlights of each day so far this year! I’m feeling stronger and praise God that he showed me what I was missing and that we were able to correct that (without even spending any money!)

I can do all things through Him who gives me strength! And He does provide a way when we seek after Him.

I have found several tools to help me organize my life and I hope to be able to share those ideas with you soon but for now jut having the time and space to think about my day has made all of the difference!

What is it you need? Do you have a spot just for you? It doesn’t have to look like a magazine picture or pinterest post. Just something that works for you! I’d love to see your spot 🙂

God’s Timing

June 9, 2009 by mamakay Leave a Comment

After 3 failed attempts to sell our house in the last 7 years God sold our house in 2 days last week! Wednesday morning our last realtor called to see if we might still be interested in selling our house for the price we had it listed at last December. If so, could he show it that afternoon or Thursday? Well, there was no way we were going to get it ready by that afternoon so I agreed to a Thursday afternoon showing. The engaged couple came at 5:15 pm to look at the house. Shortly after 7 pm that night we had an offer. We countered their offer Friday morning and had a signed contract around 3 pm Friday afternoon!

As long as everything goes through we will close July 16th. We will be moving in with my in-laws until after the baby is born and take the time to save up some money and figure out what we are going to do from there.

I never would have imagined we would be getting ready to move this summer! In fact on Tuesday I was talking with a friend about our house situation and how we still wanted to get out of this house. All that afternoon I was thinking if we are ever going to sell this house God is going to have to sell it for us. And that is exactly what happened!

Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Bountiful Baskets

November 22, 2008 by mamakay Leave a Comment

Here in Phoenix we have a wonderful co-op run by two amazing moms called Bountiful Baskets. Every other week you contribute via their website and on Saturday morning you go to a site to pick up your baskets of fruit and vegetables. They have an organic version for $25 and a conventional version for $15 on opposite weekends. Because of the size of our family we need 2 of the organic baskets and then we share some of it with my in-laws.

They also have some great opportunities for extra produce from time to time. For example, I was able to buy 2 bushels (38 pounds) of Honey Crisp Apples for $24.50/bushel! They were delicious! Earlier this year we were able to buy cases of peaches and pears too all for great prices.

I am learning to can and I’ll try to get some pictures of what I’ve canned so far this fall up soon. I’ve been saving a lot of money buying our produce this way plus it keeps me out of the store so I save money that way too.

Follow up on Giving

World Vision Jar

Last January I told you that we were setting aside a jar to donate money for World Vision and I wanted to give you a followup on our progress.

On Christmas morning after we opened our gifts we counted up the money we saved all year. Plus final donations from everyone including our family that was here visiting.

We were suprised to find that we had over $500! Everyone got to participate in deciding what we would give from the gift catalog and here’s what we decided to get:

  • A share of a well
  • A pair of goats
  • A sheep
  • 10 chickens
  • 5 ducks

We pray that God will multiply our effort and bless the recipients of these humble gifts abundantly.

Giving

Farm Animals

This year our family has committed to providing a Farm of Animals to 10 needy families from WorldVision’s Gift Catalog.
(Thanks to Ann and Dawn for the idea of gift catalogs.)

We are so excited to have a specific goal and one that is big enough that we will be able to watch God work to fulfill it!

If you would, we would really appreciate your prayers for this endeavor! We will keep you updated as to our progress. At this point our jar contains $14.67. We are also looking for creative ideas of how we could raise money towards this goal. We are planning a garage sale in the spring.

May God be glorified through this endeavor!

Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, I was sick and you visited me, I was in prison and you came to me.’ Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.’ Matthew 25:34-40

Stitch Fix outfit

So glad you stopped by. I am a Christian wife and mother of 8 in the middle years. My kids are aged 4 to 20 and just about every 2 years in between. I write about our life as a big family, what God is personally doing in my life, food and books.
